-
What is paediatric physiotherapy?
-
Paediatric physiotherapy helps babies, kids, and teens develop movement skills, recover from injuries, and feel more confident in their bodies. At Groms Physio + Co, we support kids through all stages of development, from infancy to adolescence.
-
-
What age groups do you work with?
-
We see babies, kids, and teens. Some families come to us with concerns about infant development or feeding concerns, while others book for sports injuries, pain, kids pelvic floor support or concussion recovery in older kids and young athletes.
-
-
What happens at the first appointment?
-
Your first appointment includes time to talk through your concerns, your child’s history, and your goals. We then complete an assessment based on your child’s age and needs, and explain what is going on in a clear, practical way. You will leave with a plan that feels works with your family.
-
-
Can parents stay in the appointment?
-
Either works! Many parents like to stay for the appointment to learn more about what is going on and see what can be done at home. We love when families are involved, informed, and confident in how to support your child between visits. However, if your kiddo is older, more independent, or you have to go pick up another child at an activity - we can do the appointment 1-to-1 without a parent present.
-
-
Is treatment play-based?
-
For most of our kids - yes! For babies and younger kids, therapy is often built around play, movement, and age-appropriate activities. This helps kids stay engaged while working on important skills. For the older kiddos and teens - therapy shifts away from play and focuses more on education and specific rehab.
-
-
Do you work alongside other providers?
-
Yes- we love collaboration, and the Sea-to-Sky is a great place where many health care teams work together to support your family. No matter who is supporting you, our team is dedicated to working collaboratively with them to ensure you are supported optimally!

Infant Development Physio
-
How do I know if my baby should see a physiotherapist?
-
It can help to book an assessment if your baby:
-
prefers turning their head one way
-
struggles with tummy time
-
seems stiff or floppy
-
is having a hard time with rolling, sitting, crawling, or walking (or you’d like ideas on how to help your babe learn these skills)
-
moves differently on one side
-
seems uncomfortable during movement
-
-
Sometimes parents book an appointment because something just feels off. In addition, some families book an appointment so they can learn how to purposefully play with their baby, even though they have no concerns with their development.
-
-
Can physio help if my baby is not meeting milestones?
-
Absolutely - we support babies with gross motor skills and help them build strength, coordination, and the movement foundations they need for each stage of development.
-
-
When should I be concerned if my baby is not rolling, sitting, or crawling yet?
-
Every baby develops at their own pace, but it is worth checking in if your baby seems significantly behind, avoids certain positions, shows strong asymmetry, or becomes frustrated during movement. Getting support sooner usually means your little one will be on a better path sooner.
-
-
What does infant physio look like?
-
Infant physio is gentle, hands-on when needed, and always tailored to your baby. We use play, positioning, movement strategies, and parent coaching to help your baby move more comfortably and confidently.
-
Infant Feeding Support
-
Can physiotherapy help with infant feeding?
-
Yes. Physiotherapy can help when optimize feeding when there are challenges related to body tension, posture, head preference, or difficulty coordinating movement. Physiotherapy doesn’t always mean something has to be wrong - sometimes it can be an approach to make the skill even better. If you’re looking for ways to improve feeding - we can help!
-
-
What kinds of feeding concerns do you see?
-
We may support babies who have:
-
tension through the neck or body
-
a strong head-turning preference
-
difficulty getting comfortable for feeds
-
challenges with latching
-
challenges coordinating lips, tongue and suck mechanics
-
fall asleep during feeds
-
feeding support with bottles
-
feeding concerns alongside torticollis or flat head preference
-
we also help the mama's with painful feeding, clogged ducts/mastitis
-
-
Gross Motor Delays
-
What is a gross motor delay?
-
A gross motor delay means a child is having difficulty learning or keeping up with movement skills such as rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, running, jumping, climbing, or balancing. Usually these skills are matched to a kids age. Understanding what is the contributing factor to a potential delay can help improve skills more efficiently.
-
-
Can physiotherapy help with gross motor delays?
-
Yes! Paediatric physiotherapy can help children improve strength, coordination, balance, and motor planning. We focus on family-centred goals and break skills into manageable steps.
-
-
Is it too early to get help?
-
Usually not! Early assessment can offer reassurance, simple strategies, and a clearer understanding of what support may help. You do not need to wait until a delay feels significant to ask questions. Oftentimes, getting support earlier means you can also get on the right track sooner.
-
Paediatric Sports Injuries
-
Do you treat sports injuries in kids and teens?
-
Yes. We assess and treat a wide range of paediatric sports and activity-related injuries including strains, sprains, growing pains, overuse injuries, knee pain, ankle injuries, broken bones and return-to-sport concerns.
-
-
Do you work with young athletes?
-
Yes. We work with active kids and young athletes who want to learn more about their body + sport, recover better, return to sports safely post-injury, and keep progressing in the sports and activities they love.
-
-
What makes paediatric physio different?
-
Children and teens are not just small adults. Their bodies are still growing, and treatment needs to reflect their age, sport, stage of healing, and confidence level. We tailor care to the individual child, not just the injury.
-
-
Can physio help prevent re-injury?
-
Absolutely - even the best athlete can improve movement goals. Rehab is not just about getting rid of pain; we also help kids improve their strength, control, balance, movement quality, and return-to-sport planning to reduce the risk of future injury.
-
Paediatric Concussion Management
-
Can you help with concussions in children and teens?
-
For sure! Groms Physio + Co is a Complete Concussion Certified Clinic! We support children and teens recovering from concussion with assessment, symptom-guided treatment, and a gradual plan for return to school, activity, and sport. We also provide Baseline Tests for athletes to help ensure they get the best care for any future bumps + knocks along the way. Groms Physio + Co works with many youth teams in the local community to support their athletes.
-
-
What are signs my child should be checked after a concussion?
-
It is worth seeking support if your child has a hit to their head (and/or body) as well as 2 of the following symptoms:
-
headache
-
dizziness
-
nausea
-
fatigue
-
light or noise sensitivity
-
difficulty concentrating + remembering
-
balance issues
-
more emotional + irritable
-
trouble returning to school or sport
-
-
Coming in for an assessment does not mean your child will automatically be pulled from sport. A decision on diagnosis, treatment and plan will be made once there is a clear picture of what is going on.
-
-
How does physio help with concussion recovery?
-
Our trained practitioners help to guide recovery with age-appropriate strategies, symptom monitoring, and a step-by-step plan that encompasses your family, their school and their sports teams. This may include support for balance, dizziness, movement tolerance, and graded return to both school + activity.
-
Appointments and Practical Questions
-
How many sessions will my child need?
-
It depends on your child’s age, goals, and the reason for coming in for support. Some families need one or two appointments for reassurance and home strategies, while others benefit from ongoing support over time. Our practitioners are happy to work with a plan that fits your family’s needs and goals best.
-
-
Will we get things to work on at home?
-
Yes - you will most definitely have tools + a program to take home. We keep home programs realistic, simple, and easy to fit into your family’s life.
-
-
What should my child wear?
-
We can make do with almost any outfit - but comfortable clothing that allows for movement is best. For babies, a simple outfit or onesie works well. For older kids, activewear is ideal.
-
-
What if my child is shy or nervous?
-
This is exactly why we created Groms Physio + Co - a space, just for kids. Our space, as well as our awesome team do their best to make kids comfortable. Our kid-focused space and warm, open environment ensure kids feel safe and excited to come to physio. Games, laughter and watching other kids enjoy movement is part of our ethos. We take time to build trust, follow your child’s lead, and create a supportive experience that helps them feel safe and comfortable.
-
-

-
For the vibes. Once you enter our space, you’ll understand why kids come to Groms!
